Alex Jablonski, Assistant Director for Pre-Law and Pre-Graduate Advising at Cornell Career Services, has made significant contributions to the field of pre-law advising through his participation in the Northeast Association of Pre-Law Advisors (NAPLA). Jablonski is deeply involved in its activities and ascended the ranks since joining NAPLA as a board member in 2019. He served as president from 2023 to 2024.
One of Alex’s notable achievements within NAPLA was organizing the organization’s 50th anniversary conference held in Washington, D.C. from June 13-16, 2023. It was the first in-person event NAPLA hosted since the COVID-19 pandemic began, a significant milestone for the organization. The conference is a signature event for the NAPLA, facilitating member meetups as well as attracting law school admissions officers, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, and advisors.
Organizing the conference came with some challenges in the post-COVID era. The logistics were complicated due to the fluctuating budgets of attendees, creating a need to find affordable solutions. However, Jablonski and his team navigated these challenges and created a four-day event that included visits to all seven law schools in the D.C. area. One of the conference’s most unique and exciting highlights was a grand event held at the renowned Spy Museum.
Jablonski’s strong belief in professional service motivates him each day. As a pre-law advisor, he understands the importance of finding a niche in this field and continuously expands and strengthens the network. Through his involvement in NAPLA, Alex taps into a larger community of pre-law professionals and leverages that support for students. The opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, learn from their experiences, and provide support to students based on these insights is invaluable.
Through NAPLA, Jablonski engages with those who share his passion for pre-law advising. Professionals can exchange ideas, seek advice, and collaborate to enhance the field. Jablonski also leverages NAPLA’s networking opportunities to establish connections with law school representatives and gain visibility in the law admissions world.
Jablonski’s commitment to professional service and his active involvement in NAPLA showcases his dedication to the pre-law advising community. By actively participating in NAPLA’s initiatives and leveraging the support of a larger network, he ensures that he stays at the forefront of developments in the field and can provide the best guidance to students. With his continued engagement in NAPLA, Alex is poised to make lasting contributions to the pre-law advising profession, benefiting students and fellow advisors, including those in the Pre-Law Advisory Network (PLAN) at Cornell.
