Winter Career Exploration Trek to NYC

In January 2026, Cornell Career Services hosted 24 first-generation students on a career exploration trek to New York City. Participating students came from a variety of majors and undergraduate colleges from across the University. Students visited BlackRock and NY Life, networked with members of the NYC Cornell Alumni Chapter, and attended a Broadway show.

Networking with NYC Alumni Chapter Members

“One insight I gained was how valuable it is to learn directly from people working at different companies and industries. Being able to ask questions, make connections, and see different career paths up close gave me a head start in understanding where I might fit approach the application process” Purv Patel, Engineering ’29

Thanks to the Penske family’s generous donation, students traveled by bus and stayed at a hotel. This trek provided valuable insights and connections, fostering professional growth and networking opportunities for the students.

NY Life Visit

“Participating in the Trek increased my confidence to continue exploring careers because it made professional spaces feel more accessible and less intimidating. Speaking directly with professionals who openly shared their career journeys, including their uncertainties and changes along the way, helped me realize that it is okay not to have everything figured out yet. Seeing people who once stood where I am now showed me that exploring different paths is a normal and necessary part of the process. As a student interested in law, the Trek reassured me that asking questions, seeking guidance, and staying open to new opportunities are important steps in building a meaningful career.” Argenis Alas, CALS ‘29

Career Services hosts multiple treks per year and will plan another in May 2026 – check Handshake for application details!
