SMBC Information Session: Meet Our Senior Leaders – Part 1
We invite all students who are completing an undergraduate degree. We understand how the recruitment process can be overwhelming at times. This session was designed with your best interests in mind. You will have a unique opportunity to hear from a senior business member. Althea Pieters is a Managing Director and Co-Head of Regulatory Relations and Public Policy and the Head of Strategy for SMBC, Americas Division. She leads SMBC’s regulatory engagement strategy with U.S. regulators while advising SMBC’s senior management on regulatory, and remediation topics to aid the company in achieving its strategic goals. Althea joined SMBC in August 2023 to establish the Washington D.C. Representative Office and advocates for SMBC before U.S regulators and through various trade associations on U.S. regulatory policy proposals. Althea has over two decades of central banking, bank supervision, policy development, and crisis management experience. Prior to joining SMBC, Althea was the Head of U.S. Regulatory Policy at Credit Suisse. Althea also held a variety of positions at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the European Central Bank, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and the New York State Division of Financial Services. At the Federal Reserve she drafted regulations and guidance for large U.S. financial institutions, and the U.S. operations of foreign banks, including the U.S. Tailoring Rule and several Supervisory Letters.Come get to know us.At SMBC, we are growing and transforming alongside our clients.
