Class of 1964 John F. Kennedy Memorial Award

The purpose of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Award is to encourage student leaders to enter careers in government or other public service fields. The Class of 1964 urges graduating Cornellians to consider careers in public service and invites them to apply.  This $15,000 award endeavors to further President Kennedy’s intense interest in realizing the leadership potential of America’s youth, as evidenced by the creation of such programs as the Peace Corps and the White House Summer Seminar.  Please visit the Class of 1964 website to learn more about the John F. Kennedy Memorial Award and to hear from past recipients.

Applications are due Monday, November 17, 2025 by 11:59 pm.

The application requires:

  • two 500-word essays;
  • two letters of recommendation from a faculty member or other person qualified to attest to your academic achievements and a professional who can speak to your character, goals and experience in public service;
  • an official transcript; and
  • a resume that includes public-service or leadership activities on and off campus.

Only complete applications, including letters of recommendation and a copy of your official transcript, that are received by the due date will be considered.

Applications will be reviewed by the Class of 1964 John F. Kennedy Memorial Award selection committee. In late January, the committee will invite three finalists to participate in 30-minute interviews over Zoom in February. The Class of 1964 John F. Kennedy Memorial Awardee will be notified in early March. The other two finalists will receive a $500 honorarium.

Please email any questions to Whitney Tassie, the Einhorn Center’s grants and award lead.
