Design Intern – Outerwear (Academic Credit Only)
Location: Midtown Manhattan, NY
Fall 2025
Amerex Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Design Intern to join our Outerwear Design Team. This internship offers hands-on exposure to every stage of the design and development process, from concept to production.
What You’ll Learn:
- How to navigate a full seasonal development calendar and workflow
- Key industry terms and processes (e.g., BOM, SMC, cutter’s must, lab dips, strike-offs, AUR, LTD)
- CAD techniques for both functionality and presentation
- How to read and interpret selling reports
- Efficient workflows and shortcuts in Illustrator and Excel
- The differences between fashion categories, licensing development, and wholesale business
- How curated materials (fabric books, swatches, line sheets) support sales and customer presentations
What We’re Looking For:
- Currently enrolled in a fashion design or related program (academic credit required)
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator (flat sketches)
- Basic knowledge of Photoshop (for photo editing/touchups)
- Organized, detail-oriented, and eager to learn
- Strong communication skills and the ability to multitask
- A passion for outerwear, fashion trends, and design development
What You’ll Do:
- Support the design team with trend research and presentation decks
- Create and update CADs, line sheets, tech packs, and BOMs
- Help track lab dips, strike-offs, and trim submissions and approvals
- Prepare curated materials like swatch books and line sheets for internal teams and buyers
- Assist with daily communication, tracking charts, and production coordination
Internship Details:
- Unpaid; 2–3 days per week, in-person
- Office located in Midtown Manhattan
- We’ll provide documentation to support your school’s internship requirements
Academic Credit:
This internship is unpaid. However, candidates may opt to pursue academic credit through their educational institution. Amerex Group is willing to support a student’s petition for academic credit. Candidates interested in academic credit should note that they may be required to cover associated costs out of pocket.
