This paid internship position will assist with developing and conducting interpretive programs that will increase the public awareness of their surrounding environment and foster the appreciation, enjoyment, and utilization of Delaware State Parks. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Weekend and evening work will be required.

Interns will also participate in intern-wide professional development activities and experiential learning opportunities that may require them to be off-site or away from their placement. Each intern will complete a personalized “demonstration of learning” project. At the conclusion of the internship, all interns will present their projects during a poster session for peers and Delaware State Parks staff.

Job Duties:

  • Assist with public environmental and historical programs to increase awareness and understanding of Delaware’s natural and cultural resources.
  • Assist in developing educational materials.
  • Provide general customer service and park information to visitors.
  • May assist with supervision of children during summer day camps.
  • Maintain cleanliness of park facilities through light janitorial work.
  • Set-up, monitoring, and clean-up support for park programs and special events.
  • May be given opportunity to develop and lead own programs with supervisory support.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Interest in environmental education, public speaking, and/or park resource management.
  • Desire to work in an outdoor, team setting, and develop personal and professional growth.
