HWI has a fantastic opportunity to join our Safety Team in the Fairfield, AL plant for a winter semester internship. This is a great opportunity for someone pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Engineering. Our intern will develop valuable skills in a hands on manufacturing environment. This role will have flexible hours between 6 am – 4 pm Monday through Thursday.

Summary:

The Safety (EHS) Internship role provides a student with the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment. This role will support HWI at the plant level. The Safety Internship provides hands-on experience in the implementation and support of EHS programs and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations while helping to promote a culture of safety and sustainability with the organization. Assisting in the development and implementation of safety and environmental programs and procedures.
  • Collaborating with team to track and analyze workplace incidents, near misses, and safety trends. Assisting with reporting and record-keeping, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in safety committees and initiatives as assigned. Providing general administrative support as needed.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field
  • Must have completed sophomore year with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Strong interest in environmental, health, and safety issues
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance standards preferred
  • Basic understanding of environmental and safety risk management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Know and follow all safety rules and procedures
  • To be able to wear personal protective equipment, potentially including, but not limited to, Hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, metatarsal boots, fire resistant clothing and respirator.
