The Institute for Justice is looking for a highly organized and proactive Attorney Recruiting Coordinator. From behind the scenes, the Attorney Recruiting Coordinator will play an essential role in helping the recruiting team recruit top legal talent committed to IJ’s mission of ending widespread abuses of government power and securing the constitutional rights that allow all Americans to pursue their dreams.

This role is primarily an administrative and project-based position that supports the recruiting team. The individual in this role will eventually participate in interviews, however, the majority of the work focuses on managing recruiting-related projects, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, proactively updating trackers and systems, and crafting timely and thoughtful communication appropriate for the audience (i.e. lateral candidates, law students, career services offices, IJers, etc.). Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and comfort working in a support and coordination capacity to keep recruiting operations running efficiently.

This role offers a unique opportunity to apply attorney recruiting experience to a mission-driven, nonprofit law firm. There is a shared pride in being part of an organization that is at the forefront of major legal battles in federal and state courts nationwide, including leading efforts to end civil forfeiture and qualified immunity. With eleven U.S. Supreme Court victories, our work has a real and lasting impact. This role will be part of a supportive, close-knit recruiting team that values collaboration and growth. IJ actively encourages professional development, and the role offers meaningful flexibility to shape and expand responsibilities over time. We also offer exceptional benefits and perks, making this an opportunity to do impactful work while building a rewarding, sustainable career.

Attorney Recruiting Tasks Include:

  • Assisting the Director of Recruiting in tracking key activities and data to meet the annual attorney recruiting goals.
  • Helping to create, execute, and track the promotion plan for attorney and fellow positions.
  • Posting attorney and fellowship opportunities on law school job boards, law firm alumni boards, and some general job boards.
  • Creating interview schedules, supervising in-office interviews, collecting feedback on candidates, and checking candidate references.
  • Organizing and maintaining candidate information in SharePoint.
  • Managing 2-3 large mail merge print jobs and mailings each year.
  • Conducting research on a variety of areas, including market trends in the legal industry, potential candidates, and additional law firm/law school contacts.
  • Developing relationships with career services professionals at target law schools and keeping them updated on IJ’s fellowship/attorney openings.
  • Ensuring all attorney recruiting invoices and expenses are sent to accounting, tracked, and paid.
  • Inputting candidate updates into our internal tracker as well as SalesForce and our applicant tracking system, JazzHR.

Other Tasks Include:

  • Ensuring the information on the recruiting sections of the website and on LinkedIn is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Collaborating with the Social Media team on recruiting related content.
  • Providing day-of support to IJ’s Events Coordinator and Student Programs Coordinator for various events throughout the year.
  • Assisting with other recruiting, HR, and admin team projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in attorney recruiting. If someone has fewer than two years of experience, we will consider them as a Recruiting Assistant. We are also open to bringing someone in with more experience and will consider alternate titles based on experience.
  • The ability to juggle multiple projects and tasks with overlapping deadlines.
  • A successful track record of taking long-term projects from start to finish.
  • Extraordinary organizational skills (i.e. someone who gets excited about the prospect of organizing online document files and updating spreadsheets).
  • A self-starter with examples of professional situations where they demonstrated proactive thinking.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity with sensitive information.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience with SalesForce.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office programs and, ideally, experience running mail merges.
  • A team player mentality, willing to take on other tasks and projects as needed.
  • An interest in constitutional litigation and commitment to learning about IJ’s cases and clients.
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • The ability to work in Arlington, VA, in person. This role is eligible for a hybrid work schedule after 90 days.

Benefits:

  • Hybrid work schedule (this role will be eligible for hybrid work after 90 days)
  • Flexible work hours with our core business hours of 10am to 4pm
  • Casual dress code
  • Health, Dental, and Vision insurance (IJ covers 100% of individual premiums)
  • Free Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, and Life insurance plans
  • HSA employer contributions
  • 401(k) with employer matches
  • Generous PTO including a paid personal day and 12 paid holidays
