Position Summary:
The Hospitality Intern will primarily support the hospitality development and acquisitions team with occasional assistance to asset management. This position will be responsible for work with underwriting, acquisitions, market research, and asset management tasks as needed. As hospitality intern, you will be expected to deliver complete and correct proforma and analytical work to supervisor. This position will report to the Manager and Senior Director of Hospitality Investments.
This internship will last 3 months from around June 3rd – August 30th, with the start date being flexible depending on school schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and provide recommendations on potential projects and investment opportunities. Assist analysts in the creation of presentations that efficiently deliver relevant data to senior management in both investment committee type forums and through electronic transmission.
- Assist in evaluating new asset investment by creating and reviewing Excel based proforma models with the Hospitality Analyst and Manager of Hospitality Investments. Calculate IRR, cash-on-cash, equity multiples, return-on-cost and other return metrics.
- Assist in creating operating proforma projections for new development and acquisition opportunities through detailed market research, industry analysis, and comparable property analysis. Significant detail and research may be needed for these projections.
- Maintain current knowledge of key hotel and tourism trends, sales, indicators, supply and demand dynamics. Track and maintain the hospitality market research library and research data tools to ensure all information is accurate, relevant, and up to date. This includes tracking new supply, comparable sales, and top line metric performance.
- May be required to complete an additional project outside day-to-day duties which adds value to the company and to the intern. The project should be substantial and not something that is completed in 1-2 days. It is the intern’s responsibility to come up with the project and successfully complete it.
Qualifications:
- This internship is open to current Undergraduate or Graduate students
- Studying Real Estate Finance or Hospitality Management preferred
- One significant internship in real estate development, acquisitions, finance, or asset management is a plus; preferably with a focus on hospitality
- Basic understanding of financial statements with an ability to thoroughly analyze a hotel profit and loss statement
- Must demonstrate excellent analytical ability, proficiency in market research, and finance and accounting knowledge
- Must demonstrateflexibility in a complex and changing organization and the ability to adapt to changes in structure and work priorities
- Highly proficient in Microsoft office suite, including Excel
- Hotel operations experience is preferred
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal communication and writing
- This internship will operate on a hybrid schedule with 50% of hours required to be in-person
