Thank you for your interest in the Summer Experience Grant. This program is complex and requires the support of a variety of individuals in various campus offices. We are extremely grateful for that support and want to continue to provide the funding to Cornell undergraduate students in their pursuit of meaningful summer experiences.

If you are a current undergraduate student a Cornell considering the Summer Experience Grant, we would encourage you to visit the Prospective Applicants website to learn more about the program.

We are available to provide you with any support as well as to address any questions that you may have about the program. Although housed in Career Services, we collaborate with all of the academic colleges as well as several other campus offices.

While undergraduate students are our main focus, we also support site supervisors as well as any individuals supporting Cornell undergraduate students.

Again, thank you for your interest in the Summer Experience Grant and we look forward to hearing from you. Please e-mail us.

Sincerely,
The Summer Experience Grant Committee

FAQ

All communication from the Summer Experience Grant committee regarding awarding of funds will go to the student and will not include the supervisor. Please communicate with your student if you have questions about their funding.

We will ask you to complete an Experience Verification during the student’s application process in the spring to confirm details about the experience including dates, compensation, and work environment. At the end of the experience, we will ask you to complete a brief on-line form confirming much of this same information to see if anything changed during the course of the summer. Overall, we hope you provide a professional experience for the student that supports their career and personal development.

As a supervisor, Summer Experience Grant funding may allow you to offer great experiential learning opportunities for students even if compensation is not available from your organization. The SEG process does not require much work from supervisors but can be the difference in making an unpaid or minimally paid experience possible for a student.

The Summer Experience Grant program would not be possible without our many incredible donors. Thousands of students have been able to explore career paths and take steps toward graduate school or their first job with the support of SEG funds. As one recent student recipient shared, “If I did not have your funding, I don’t think I would have been able to accept this position because I would not have been able to afford housing in New York City.” We encourage you to consider joining this generous group of supporters to help make these summer experiences possible for Cornell students.

SEG funds are generally able to support career-related experiences supervised by staff or faculty members at an organization including internships, research assistantships, volunteer opportunities, and international experiences. We are generally not able to support fee-based programs, certain Cornell programs, personal research projects, student-run entrepreneurial ventures, or work supervised by a family member. Please read more information about eligible and ineligible experiences here and reach out to us at seg@cornell.edu with any questions.
