Finance recruitment for summer 2027 is ramping up, with many firms opening applications on January 1, 2026 (and some already open). Sophomores targeting competitive areas like Investment Banking should enter the spring 2026 semester ready to secure their junior summer internship. Use available resources to stay organized and competitive.
These tips will help you prepare:
- Prepare your application materials: Update your resume and cover letter. Schedule an appointment to have your documents reviewed.
- Organize your applications: Track the firms you plan to apply to and stay aware of application timelines. Tools like Trackr can help you monitor opening and closing dates for internships and insight programs. Submit applications as soon as they open whenever possible.
- Strengthen your networking: Continue connecting with professionals at your target firms, especially Analysts and Associates, who tend to be the more responsive. Attend employer information sessions through Handshake and check company websites for additional recruiting events.
- Practice early for interviews: Don’t wait for an interview invite to start preparing. Use behavioral mock interviews and platforms like Big Interview to practice. Be ready to highlight strong communication and client-facing skills, and maintain your financial modeling Excel proficiency. All Cornell students have access to LinkedIn Learning trainings and we recommend reviewing the Financial Modeling Foundations Course. For more advanced preparation, we recommend attending the upcoming Wall Street Prep training January 8th and 9th 2026.
