About Gemini

Gemini is a regulated cryptocurrency exchange, wallet, and custodian headquartered in New York. Our mission is to empower the individual through crypto and to build a more open and accessible financial system. We partner with institutions, trading firms, and developers who rely on Gemini for secure, high performance market access. As part of our ongoing commitment to support the next generation of quantitative finance talent, we are launching a new nationwide university initiative.

Purpose: The Gemini Collegiate Quantitative Trading Competition is designed to give students from leading universities real, hands on experience trading in live markets. The goal is to help students deepen their understanding of market microstructure, strategy development, and execution dynamics in an environment that mirrors what professional trading firms use.

What Makes This Competition Unique: This is a live capital trading competition. Teams will execute real trades on the Gemini exchange using the same APIs and infrastructure available to institutional clients.

Gemini provides all trading capital: If a team loses money, Gemini absorbs the loss. If a team earns money, the team keeps the profit. This structure gives students the ability to engage with real world trading without personal financial risk. Additional prizes will be announced.

Timing And Structure: We have structured the competition to be highly flexible, in order to accommodate students’ varying schedules and workloads. The eligibility period will span approximately 2 months (exact dates TBD), but teams will rank according to their 5 best trading days. This allows for individuals and teams to work at their own pace, while granting them equal opportunity to compete and win without distracting from their academic priorities and obligations.

Team Formation:There is no limit to how many students or teams may participate from a given university. Teams may be any size. The interest form is non binding and used only to gauge demand and determine capital allocation.

Account Setup: Each club will receive a master account, and each team will receive a sub-account for trading. Prior to capital being released, teams will submit a short strategy outline. Gemini will manage KYC and compliance for onboarding.

Trading Environment: All trading will occur on the live Gemini exchange under assigned competition accounts. Standard exchange functionality and APIs will be used, providing an authentic quantitative trading experience.

Participation & Next Steps: Please fill out the interest form here. There is no limit to how many students from your organization may sign up, and completing the form is not a commitment. It simply helps us track interest and plan team allocations!
