Junior Software Engineer
Columbus, OH (Hybrid)
Contract-to-Hire – $28/hr
Brooksource’s banking client is looking to hire Junior Software Engineers as part of our January 2027 career development cohort. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career who wants to build hands-on software development experience within a large enterprise technology environment.
You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and technical teams while receiving ongoing technical and professional development. We are proactively recruiting for multiple anticipated openings for the January 2027 cohort.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop and modify software applications with support from experienced team members
- Work primarily with Java and gain hands-on experience developing enterprise applications
- Support the development and integration of APIs and web services
- Write and work with SQL queries and relational databases
- Participate in the analysis and review of epics, features, and user stories
- Contribute to technical design discussions and reviews for software features
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and backlog refinement
- Participate in code reviews, integration testing, debugging, and issue resolution
- Assist with researching and resolving application and production support issues
- Create and maintain technical and system documentation
- Collaborate with software engineers, analysts, product teams, and other technical stakeholders
- Participate in scheduled application releases and deployments
- Continue building technical and professional skills through structured training and development
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field required by January 2027
- Experience with Java through coursework, projects, internships, or professional experience
- Understanding of object-oriented programming and software development fundamentals
- Exposure to Spring Boot or similar application frameworks
- Experience working with or developing APIs
- Experience writing SQL queries
- Familiarity with Git or other version control tools
- Exposure to cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, or GCP is a plus
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively on a team
- Motivated to grow within a software engineering career
Preferred Backgrounds:
- Candidates graduating in December 2026 or earlier who are available to begin working in January 2027
- Candidates with internships, coursework, or personal projects involving software or application development
- Experience building applications or projects using Java
- Exposure to Agile software development environments is a plus
