Assistant Teacher Job Description

Location: 5235 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC 28215
Position: Assistant Teacher – Early Childhood Education
Reports To: Center Director and Assistant Director
Employment Type: Full-Time
Operating Hours: Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–6:00 PM

Position Summary

Childcare Network #93 is seeking a dependable, energetic, nurturing, and dedicated Assistant Teacher to join our growing team!

The Assistant Teacher is responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, clean, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children.

The ideal candidate must have a passion for early childhood education, demonstrate professionalism, work well with others, and be committed to helping children grow socially, emotionally, physically, and academically.

Key Responsibilities

1. Classroom Management & Supervision

Assist the Lead Teacher with daily classroom operations and routines.

Maintain active supervision of children at all times.

Ensure compliance with North Carolina childcare licensing regulations and staff-to-child ratios.

Engage with children throughout the day rather than remaining seated or in one area of the classroom.

Support positive behavior guidance and age-appropriate classroom management techniques.

Maintain a welcoming, nurturing, and structured classroom environment.

Assist with transitions, meals, restroom breaks, diaper changes, and rest periods as applicable.

2. Curriculum & Educational Activities

Assist in implementing daily lesson plans and curriculum activities.

Participate in circle time, small-group instruction, outdoor play, and hands-on learning experiences.

Encourage children’s language development, social skills, independence, and problem-solving abilities.

Prepare classroom materials and learning centers before activities begin.

Assist with classroom observations and documentation of children’s developmental progress.

Ensure children are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences throughout the day.

3. Classroom Cleanliness & Organization

Maintain a clean, sanitized, organized, and welcoming classroom daily.

Follow all posted daily and weekly classroom cleaning checklists.

Sweep and mop classroom floors daily as assigned.

Remove classroom trash during lunch breaks or designated times to reduce odors.
