San Lorenzo Montessori is looking for an afternoon assistant. The position is part time, for the hours of 11:15am to 5:30pm (hours are flexible).
The assistant will work closely with the lead teachers to create a positive and supportive environment for children to develop and learn, guided by the Montessori Philosophy. They should treat families, staff and children with respect, and maintain constructive relationships at all times.
We are looking for someone with good communication skills, who is positive, patient and open to working in an alternative educational setting. Candidate should have a desire to work with young children ages 18 months to 5 years old, and to learn about the Montessori philosophy.
Candidates need to be comfortable with structure and routine, but flexible enough to meet individual children’s needs and can accept direction from the director or lead teachers, in order to maintain the Montessori Philosophy.
The assistant will supervise the children in the classroom, bathroom, hallways and outside area. They must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs., and be able to bend down to child’s eye level, as well work with the children while seated on the floor.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: supervision of children, maintaining the room, toileting, assisting children with dressing and undressing, snack preparation, room cleaning and sanitizing.
All staff are expected to follow the policies and procedures outlined in the SLM handbook.
Candidates must also meet NY State requirements, which includes, CPR and first aid training; finger printing, background check, and OCFS training.
