Working for New York State Government
New York State government jobs include a wide range of opportunities that touch every part of public life. State employees also receive comprehensive compensation packages, including excellent health and retirement benefits and work-life balance options, such as flexible work hours and alternative work schedules.
This webpage provides information about the state government hiring process and how to find currently available positions – both internships and full-time roles. While state positions have historically required candidates take a civil service exam, a special program began in April 2023 to help fill worker shortages faster. Many state positions can now be hired through the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (NY HELPS) program without you having to take an exam! This may change in the future, but is a great option to use in the meantime.
